All police officers start as a constable when they graduate from The Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC). There are approximately 10,000 police officers in New Zealand Police holding a variety of ranks from constable to commissioner. As part of helping make New Zealand the safest country, they help prevent harm and keep New Zealanders safe in their homes, in their communities, and on the roads.
The name Munro acknowledges the origins of The Copshop, which started in 1956 as The Munro Canteen. This shop was established by the No 2 Munro Recruit Wing (whose Patron was Assistant Commissioner Peter Munro) at the old Police Training School in Trentham and is now located at the RNZPC in Porirua.
